Beauty Review: Bourjois & Estée Lauder

I have been a loyal user of Estée Lauder’s Double Wear for four years! When I first used it, it was hands down the best foundation I’d ever used and I have stuck with it ever since!

It has the best coverage of any foundation I’ve tried, keeps oil & shine to a minimum and gives skin a pretty flawless finish.

However, the only downside for me about Double Wear, is its price tag – £30 – and so I’ve been keen to start trying out other, cheaper foundations, to see what else was out there!

One foundation that I’ve heard so much about – both negative & positive reviews – and I’ve seen featured in many YouTube tutorials is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation.

And with its £9.99 price tag, I was eager to test it out for myself and see what the hype was about..

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation – £9.99

  • Great coverage
  • Long-lasting
  • Dewy-finish
  • Easy application

I’ve been using this foundation for about 3 weeks now and overall, I’m pretty satisfied and impressed with it!

Having used a variety of foundations, from Rimmel, to The Body Shop, to Maybelline
I’ve never been able to find one with good enough coverage.

With acne scarring to hide, coverage is definitely the most important thing for me in a foundation, and this one certainly achieves that! Despite its fairly thin consistency, it blends on well, and combined with my L’Oréal Paris Infallible Matte Powder, the Healthy Mix foundation provides as high a coverage as Double Wear.

I am also really happy with the appearance of this foundation when it’s been apllied! Looking cakey & like you’ve plastered on the make-up is something every make-up wearer wants to avoid, but Healthy Mix creates a very natural look and a dewy finish.

A big advantage of Double Wear for me though, is undoubtedly its ability to keep excess oil to a minimum.

That was a big difference I found with between these two products – Double Wear is great for people with oily/combination skin types and mattifying skin, whereas Healthy Mix is not.

When wearing Healthy Mix, I have to apply powder to my T-Zone, far more, literally double, the amount of times I do when wearing Double Wear. Although I like the foundation, this was a big negative for me! 😦

In terms of longevity, I would say both Healthy Mix & Double Wear are pretty equal! I’m sure we all have times when we know our foundation is going to be looking a little less fab – for me that’s at the end of my work day, when I head to the gym!

But both foundations gave an equal look at these times, and to be quite honest, I don’t see a difference in my appearance from when I’m wearing Double Wear, compared to Healthy Mix.

For me, another big plus point of Healthy Mix is its bottle design and how it’s applied. One thing I’ve always hated about Double Wear, is how difficult it can be to apply – no wand, no pump, just an open bottle top, which can get messy and be a bit of a nightmare!

So if that is important to  you, that’s another big tick for Healthy Mix!

My favourite foundation still remains to be Double Wear.

It has the highest coverage, best longevity and is so mattifying and that is why I will always love it!

However, for a cheaper, more practical dupe, I could not recommend Healthy Mix enough. If you’re like me and don’t really want to spend £30 on foundation every month, or don’t want to spend that amount anyway, then this is the perfect replacement!

Healthy Mix has also become a great addition to my make-up bag, it’s quicker & easier to use than Double Wear, but still produces really good results.

I used this website here to determine which shade I’d be in Bourjois Healthy Mix. I use ‘Ecru‘ in Double Wear and purchased ‘Vanilla‘ in Healthy Mix and it’s been a perfect match!

Have you used either Estée Lauder’s Double Wear or Bourjois’ Healthy Mix? What were your thoughts? I’d love to know!

I’m always on the hunt to try new beauty products, so if there’s any you would recommend, please drop me a comment! 🙂

    1. I know what you mean & totally agree. To be honest I think I was lucky to find a shade that suits me, but I’ve heard so many people say that that was a big problem. Hopefully they’ll release more shades!! Aww thank you, thank you for reading 😘 Xx

  1. I’ve always wanted to try the healthy mix but was afraid to because I had oily skin. Now that I use an oil before bed, my skin has become more normal. Do you think the healthy mix would work for my skin now?! 😁

    1. Oh I see! It’s difficult to say, my skin can be so in between sometimes! If your skin isn’t as oily, I’d definitely say give it a go! But you definitely will need to set it with powder and setting spray, as it can leave my skin looking a little oily! It’s not the best foundation for oily skin, but it still looks great! 💕 Thank you so much for reading! Xxx

  2. love Estee Lauder double wear but it is such a shame that it is so pricey so I am always looking for an alternative! I used this foundation a few years ago and LOVED it.. but I have to agree on your point about it not stopping oiliness coming through! Unfortunately I suffer from a very oily T-zone and found my skin was oilier when using the Healthy mix! Great review girly.. i think we actually have similar skin types!

    1. Definitely try Double Wear, it’s expensive but so, so worth it in my opinion! Yes, I’m the same, Bourjois is very dewy looking, but I still love it! Thank you so much for reading! Xxxx
